Challenge 8

The task:

I challenged myself to write 8 songs from scratch, one a day, for 8 days, starting on February 27th, 2023.

By the end of the day, I had written, performed and recorded 11 songs.

The album is now called 8 Days In A Bear's Life.

I originally called this project 8 (thanks to my husband and my friend Dave for helping me brainstorm) because it was my goal to create eight new songs from scratch in eight days, writing, performing, and recording each one in 8-hour studio sessions on each of those days.

This idea was born in September 2022, shortly after the release of Osito, mainly because I had to write and record that album while working on a thousand things at the same time, and although I was happy with it, I hadn't really had time to enjoy the process.

At first my intention was to do a live broadcast of the whole thing on YouTube and stuff like that. But over the months I realized that I needed more freedom and privacy to really open my creative mental doors and flow. And I came to the conclusion that if I went live, I would feel the need to answer comments and interact with viewers, and that's not good for writing or any creative process. The whole purpose was to be able to focus and create a unique state of mind.

So, starting that Monday in February, my husband, a dear friend and I isolated ourselves in a small cabin in the middle of the woods outside of town, away from distractions and ready to focus on creating these songs. The result is the 11 songs you can discover on my album 8 Day's On A Bear's Life.
